This small tree is grown throughout tropical
Africa just under forest canopy and in Savannah.
It produces tiny white or yellow flowers, fruits
are large and split apart to expose orange,
brown seeds.
EFFECTS AND PROPERTIES
All parts of the tree are used except the leaves
and can be smoked, eaten or simmered, strained
and drunk to induce warmth, comfort and relaxation.
Is used in secretive ceremonies by African medicine
men for healing and malaria, may help with flue
and colds also.
ACTIVE CHEMICALS
Chemicals of the Indole type have been found
in small quantities. Voacamine is the prominent
alkaloid and is similar in structure to Ibogaine
so may help eliminate drug dependency also.
Tabersonine and trace amounts of Ibogaine also
present.
